A Matter of Conscience -- the exhibition

E-submissions due February 15th, 2010 by midnight -- DEADLINE EXTENDED!

Notification of judge’s decisions by the end of February (exact date TBA)

Accepted work delivered to the Harlow Gallery on either Saturday, March 13 from noon -6pm or Sunday, March 14, from noon to 4pm

Opening Friday, March 19, 5-8pm, awards ceremony at 6pm

“A Matter of Conscience” will be on view at the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell March 19 – 28, 2010

A Matter of Conscience is a juried sculpture show open to Maine high school aged artists only.

Your work of art must address a social issue that the artist or artists feel strongly about. Entries from groups are welcome, as long as all artists are between the ages of 14-18. Work must be three-dimensional, or sculptural original artwork. Your work may be made out of one material or a combination of materials, including but not limited to ceramics or clay, wood, paper or cardboard, metal, assemblage, found objects. Your work may incorporate any combination of traditional visual arts mediums such as drawing, painting, printmaking and may also include text, video or other electronic, or sonic elements or mechanisms. Works may be designed to be displayed on the floor, wall mounted or hung from the ceiling.

If accepted, your artwork will need to be delivered to the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell ready for display. Artists accepted into the exhibition will be required to submit a 2-5 minute video statement, in which you can choose to address the subject matter of your work, the process of creating your artwork, or your artist statement.

Your work can be offered for sale if you wish. If sold the Harlow Gallery's usual artist commission is being reduced to only 10% for this exhibition. The usual commission is 30% for members and 40% for nonmembers.

Cash prizes will be awarded at the opening of A Matter of Conscience on Friday, March 19, 2010. The opening is from 5-8pm, and the awards ceremony will take place at 6pm.

FIRST PRIZE -- $200 cash

SECOND PRIZE -- $100 cash

THIRD PRIZE -- $50 cash
